Yanis Zagorianakos

Yanis Zagorianakos (YZagor) is a self-taught, full time craftsman and painter. He has a BSC in Industrial Chemistry and Design from The City University London, making him an artist with a highly developed scientific interest and an inquisitive approach.

He is also a Certified Vedic Art teacher

Born in Athens, he grew up between Athens, Johannesburg and London. He moved permanently to London at the age of 17, where he first studied and then worked as a Project Scientist & Designer carrying out research. After 15 years he moved back to Athens, gave up working as a scientist and started travelling to India, where by chance he got introduced to Arts & Crafts. For the next 10 years he regularly visited India and took seminars in a wide array of crafts as well as numerous workshops in painting both in London and  Athens. All while working as a full time artist and craftsman.

He now lives and works between the islands of Aegina & Amorgos.

In our Vedic Art courses in Aegina, our goal is to offer you an immersive experience centered on unlocking and expressing your creativity. We believe in connecting with nature and your inner self, all while embracing a rhythm that suits your individual needs. Our community values are about respecting personal space and time, and fostering a secure environment for the exploration of your creative potential.

Set in the welcoming island of Aegina, we hope to provide you a all round holistic experience. The island offers many additional activities and opportunities for exploration, as well as delicious, fresh seafood and locally sourced fruit, vegetable and dairy products. Historical sites dot the landscape, adding a layer of cultural richness to your experience.

All these elements come together to create a unique space-time capsule, allowing you to escape from your everyday routine and spend a transformative week in a world where nature, self-discovery and creativity intersect.

In the Vedic Art foundation course, students are introduced to the 17 Principles of art and life. The starting point is your own inner motivation: you put pen to paper and then the creation process goes into full expansion. It is very simple. The only thing that can be a bit difficult is to stop painting!

The Foundation Course is for those of you who have not done Vedic Art courses before, have only gone through parts of the basic course, or wish to repeat the course in a different environment. Foundation courses in Aegina always follow the original programme as it was created by the founder of Vedic Art, Curt Källman. No prior art experience is required to attend the course.

The continuation course is a deeper look in the principles and the process itself.

These courses are not about technique, they are about the process.

The course runs for 6 days from Saturday evening to the following Saturday morning. The lectures take place at The Cool Projects Studio, are usually set in the morning and run for about an hour. The rest of the day you are free to paint in your studio space or take time off to use as you please.

Basic materials needed: canvas, notebook, pencils, sketchbook, water based colours and tools of your choice, cloths that can get covered in paint and last but not least, your inspiration.

You can bring your own material or you can get it locally.
1. Visit the local shop where basic painting materials are available. Please note we are not responsible for the selection and/or availability of products in stock,
2. Order everything you need online in the shop of your choice and post your order to us (address below) so that everything is here waiting for you.

3. Some basic materials are also provided to purchase at the studio.

Coffee & tea is provided throughout the course. There will be a closing event to celebrate the completion of the course, with snacks and drinks. You will have time to enjoy the Island of Aegina, and we will arrange one or two excursions, depending on time and wishes of the group.

By booking this course you accept our Terms & Conditions.

The method

The origins of Vedic Art ® can be traced back to its founder, the Swedish artist Curt Källman (1938-2010). Källman's journey towards creating Vedic Art began when he embarked on an inner exploration to discover a liberating and spontaneous method for expressing himself on canvas.

Central to Vedic Art are the "Seventeen Vedic Principles of Art and Life," which Curt Källman came across in 1974 through the teachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (1918-2008), a respected Indian meditation teacher. Källman further developed the content and instructional approach of the Vedic Art method throughout the 1970s and 1980s.

The formal establishment of the Vedic Art method took place in 1988 in Sweden, with the Seventeen Principles of Indian Vedic Philosophy, an ancient oral tradition, at its core. The term "Vedic" draws its roots from the Sanskrit word "Veda," signifying knowledge or wisdom. Vedic Art is founded on the fundamental belief that each individual possesses inherent creative power and wisdom from birth. Painting serves as a vital tool for unlocking these inner resources, enabling their practical application in both life and art. Participation in a Vedic Art course led by a Vedic Art teacher is the exclusive path to access the course content and the Seventeen Principles. Prior artistic knowledge is not a prerequisite - Vedic Art welcomes everyone.

The foundation course in Vedic Art incorporates creative exercises that "open the inner seeing" in alignment with the Seventeen Principles. These creative activities have been thoughtfully designed by Curt Källman, drawing inspiration from both traditional and modern Western art traditions, from the Renaissance onwards. They are adapted to emphasize artistic freedom, the creative process,  integrity, and the connection between the creative journey, life, and personal development. Vedic Art courses provide participants with tools to explore their creative expressions, often leading to a deeper sense of unity between the creator, their creation and their art form. The Seventeen Principles serve as a guiding map for this personal creative journey.

Reviews

My one week at Aegina Retreats was filled with grateful moments and lasting memories. A big thanks to Yanis and Marina for being the most humble and welcoming hosts. Yanis’ Vedic art workshop was like a ripple effect; it went far beyond my expectations. His wisdom, combined with the uniqueness of the sessions, helped me unblock a long-stuck part of my creativity. The experience felt truly transformative. Beyond the workshops, simply being in Aegina with both of them; sharing the freshest local foods, blending into nature, and enjoying the silence of the landscape...made it a week I will never forget. I’m already looking forward to returning again.

I had an incredible experience at this unique art studio. It is a space where anyone can freely express, create, and discover, all while connecting deeply with themselves. I took the Vedic Art course and am grateful to have met Yanis, who is both highly knowledgeable and incredibly attentive as a teacher. Huge kudos to Yanis and Marina for creating such a safe and welcoming environment that fosters genuine self-expression.

Figen Geerts, 2025

What an experience! Yanis shared his wisdom and skills, and introduced me to the world of seeing without judgment, letting go, and going with the flow. Vedic Art opened a new perspective for me. I can highly recommend it to anyone who dares to surrender – you are in safe hands 😀. Many thanks as well to Marina for her hospitality and to India for the warm daily welcome. I would love to come back.
